- This work was painted during the time he had returned to his motherland after more than 10 years in Europe and in this period, he was dedicated to study rural paintings with a modern approach. Le Van De’s oeuvre reflects everyday life in the countryside that is especially enhanced through his silk paintings where we can see clearly the artist’s individuality, so full of ingenuity and understanding of the material, skillful use of ink and pigments that highlights even the luster of silk fibers.

Lê Văn Đệ (1906-1966)

- Born in 1906 in Ben Tre.

- In 1925, he joined Class I of the Indochina School of Fine Arts and graduated valedictorian in 1930.

- In 1931, he received a SAMPIPIC scholarship and went to France to pursue further studies of Fine Arts.

- In 1942, he founded the Annam Art group as a platform for art activities.

- In 1954, he became the first president of Saigon National College of Fine Arts (now Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts).
