“Art is the conscience of a nation” (Picasso)
At the core of our museum is a collection of Vietnamese art, a very personal project driven by love and appreciation of beauty and artworks that have contributed to enrich our lives. Guided by the personal vision of its founder, the Quang San Museum strives to become an inclusive platform that helps facilitate dialogues and foster critical thinking of arts and culture. Such official cultural space and infrastructures has always been needed in Vietnam as it comes in hand with not only preserving and educating the public of Vietnamese traditions and artistic legacies, but also championing and further inspiring artistic excellence of Vietnamese people. After more than 20 years of collecting, our founder saw that if this collection were to remain enclosed within a small space for personal and family enjoyment, it cannot reach those that also wish to pursue knowledge through Vietnamese art and history. Hence, this led to the establishment of Quang San Museum, with an objective to share and meet the public’s growing demand for art.
“As Pablo Picasso once stated, 'Art is the conscience of a nation', art provide us with an intuitive view into the past, help us better understand the country’s circumstances during its production and the world at large as well as the interplay between people, culture and surrounding forces that has helped to construct 'realities'. Through the preserved artistic legacies in our collection, we will see the development history of Vietnam and that is the desire of Quang San Art Museum The name 'Quang San' derives from two sources: ‘Quang’ taken from Nguyễn Thiều Quang, and 'San' from my beloved mother’s name Nguyễn Thị San to make ‘Quang San’ which also means ‘bright mountain’ in Han characters. Located on a 2000 square meters villa overlooking the Saigon river, we hope the Quang San Art Museum will become a golden destination for all, local and foreign audiences, who seek meaningful encounters with art, history, architecture and nature. Quang San Art Museum was established under the Decision No. 46/QD-SVHTT dated February 7, 2023 of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports and located at 189B/3 Nguyen Van Huong, Thao Dien Ward, Thu Duc City - Ho Chi Minh city. After a period of preparation, in June 2023 the Museum officially opened its door to serve domestic and foreign audiences. We welcome you to come and visit the collection!”
