- Doan Van Nguyen focuses on traditional lacquer paintings. This lacquer piece depicts a simple image of boats moored on the bay, here he utilizes warm earthy colors, rich paints and most notably, strong and meticulous board handling techniques, thus leaving a solid imprint on Vietnamese traditional lacquer.

Đoàn Văn Nguyên (1947)

- Doan Van Nguyen was born in 1947 in Nam Loi commune, Nam Truc district, Nam Dinh province.

- From 1972 to 1975, he went to the battlefield in the South, became a leader of an art group, and participated in the Performing Arts Association of Zone V.

- After 1975, the country was liberated, he returned to the Vietnam Fine Arts College and continued his studies, majoring in lacquer. Graduated with distinction in 1978, he was retained at the school as a teacher and since 1990 he officially instructed students in lacquer.
