- For 30 years of war, Huynh Phuong Dong continued to paint, exhibit and fight for his country. He remained heavily influenced by wartime stories and remnants that have engraved deeply in his soul and oeuvre. For that, even to a later year of peace, the artists always have familiar images of soldiers and recreates scenes of the battlefield that are engraved in his memory, the painting "Small hamlet on the banks of Rach Chanh" is a typical example.

Huỳnh Phương Đông (1925-2015)

- Huynh Phuong Dong, whose real name is Huynh Cong Nhan, was born on April 22, 1925 in Gia Dinh.

- In 1940-1945, he studied at Gia Dinh Fine Arts Practicing School. He belonged to the class of painters who were trained and grew up during the war against the French and Resistance war against the Americans.

- After graduation, he joined Vanguard Youth (a patriotic, legal organisation established in Cochinchina, 1945) as a propaganda union member in Soc Trang province.

- He participated in patriotic works and continued his artistic activities at the same time.
